BAKERSFIELD, Calif — Bakersfield Police officers remembered their fallen officers Saturday morning. At the Park at River Walk BPD hosted their 37th Annual Bakersfield Police Memorial Run.

The memorial run featured three different races, the 2K walk, 5K and 10K runs. There were medals given to top finishers across a variety of age groups, from 14 and under to 60 and over. There were even awards specifically for law enforcement runners.

Bakersfield Police highlighted the loss of four officers on Saturday; Officer Patrick Don Vegas who died June 1980, Officer William Sikola who died July 1983, Officer David Nelson who died June 2015 and Officer Dennis Moore who died August 2017.

Proceeds from the run and raffles benefit the Bakersfield Police Memorial Scholarship Fund for the children of the fallen officers. Currently Officer Moore has a son and daughter in college that the fund is helping support.

Along with the races, Bakersfield Police officers had their bomb squad vehicle and robot on display and giving demonstrations. Same-day registration was $30, which included entry to a race, a t-shirt and pancake breakfast.
