UPDATE:
Bakersfield Police said it is investigating an in-custody medical emergency involving the California Highway Patrol.

According to officials, around 11 a.m. CHP officers responded to a man crossing traffic on Highway 58. The man reportedly fought with CHP officers before he was taken into custody. BPD said while the man was being detained, he stopped breathing.

The man was taken to a local hospital where he received medical attention and was resuscitated.

The incident has caused a heavy police presence on Eastbound Highway 58 near Cottonwood Road. According to officials, the incident is impacting traffic in that area and drivers are being diverted onto Union Avenue and part of Highway 58 is closed. Bakersfield Police said that the Highway will be closed for a "few more hours."
