UPDATE (Nov. 13, 9:55 p.m.): A woman called police after she said a man threatened her with a gun on a bike path in northeast Bakersfield Monday afternoon, according to Bakersfield Police.
Bakersfield Police said they received a call around 1:46 p.m. by the woman who was riding her horse on the bike path near Manor Street and Denise Avenue. Officers arrived on scene minutes later at 1:51 p.m. and found the suspect lying in the dirt next to the bike path with the gun next to him, BPD said. The suspect was taken into custody without incident, according to Bakersfield Police.
At 1:54 p.m., officers said they noticed the suspect became unresponsive and immediately summoned medical aid. Emergency medical personnel attempted to perform medical aid but the suspect was later pronounced dead at the scene. Police said that firearm found next to the suspect was a fake gun.
BPD said both officers involved in the arrest will be placed on routine administrative leave.
Police said the victim was able to show photos and videos of portions of the incident.
The investigation is ongoing and the identity of the suspect will be released by the Kern County Coroner's Office at a later time.
