Bakersfield Police investigating deadly hit and run that left a man walking across the street dead

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Bakersfield Police Department is investigating a deadly hit and run crash that happened in South Bakersfield Friday night.

Police said around 6:30 p.m. officers responded to Ming Avenue near Chester Avenue for reports of a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

Through the investigation, officers determined a man was walking in the road, outside of a crosswalk, when he was hit by a vehicle traveling eastbound on Ming Ave.

Officials said the man had major injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police said the driver of the vehicle did not stop and drove eastbound on Ming Ave. in a dark colored sedan.

Bakersfield police said it's unknown if speed, alcohol or drugs are factors in the collision. The investigation is on-going.
