The Bakersfield Police Department is investigating after a victim of a shooting was found near Highway 58 in southeast Bakersfield.

BPD says they were dispatched around 10:30 p.m. Sunday night to the westbound lanes of Highway 58, just west of Cottonwood Road. When they arrived, they found a man with at least one gunshot wound in his car on the highway. 

BPD says the man was transported to the hospital for treatment. Early reports show the man had moderate injuries, but his current condition is unknown. 

At this time, BPD says it appears the shooting happened on Highway 58 near Cottonwood, but no other details have been released. They say they are looking for a suspect vehicle only described as a dark-colored sedan.
