Coroner identifies man hit and killed in crash on Buck Owens Blvd

UPDATE (May 29, 12:01 p.m.): The Kern County Coroner's Office has released the name of the man hit and killed in a crash Tuesday.

Brian Christopher Chairez, 31, died at the scene after he was hit by a car on Buck Owens Boulevard. The coroner's office will conduct a postmortem exam to confirm cause and manner of death.

Bakersfield Police say they responded to a fatal collision involving a pedestrian and a car on Buck Owens Boulevard Tuesday around 4:15 p.m.

Officials say when they arrived to the scene they discovered that a man was running across the roadway, outside of the crosswalk when he was struck by a sedan driving northbound. The man sustained major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Officials says drugs or alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
