BPD: 10-month-old dies, family member facing charges

UPDATE (August 18, 5:45 p.m.): The twin boys involved in the incident were Cain and Abel. Celena Martinez is charged with two counts of wilful cruelty to a child and is being held on a million dollars bail.

Celena Martinez and her boyfriend were watching their nephews when Martinez put them in the bathtub and left the water running. She then went to go wake her boyfriend and fell asleep. A friend to the twin's mother found the boys and Martinez and her boyfriend asleep in the room.

Martinez is being held on a million dollars bail and will appear in court on August 28th.

Abel died and Cain is still alive. A GoFundMe has been set up for funeral services for Abel. The link to their page is provided below.

UPDATE (August 16, 11:30 a.m.): Bakersfield Police said the 10-month-old has died. Officials arrested Celena Duarte Martinez and booked her on two counts of willful cruelty to a child.

Martinez is expected to appear in court today on those charges.

According to Bakersfield Police Detective Ryan Vaughn an arrest has been made in connection to an incident at Motel 6 Monday. 

On Monday, Sergeant Ryan Kroeker said officers were called to the Motel 6 on Easton Drive near California Avenue for reports of a 10-month-old child who had drowned in a bath tub. 

Sgt. Kroeker said the child was taken to the hospital with a pulse, but no further information has been released. 

Detective Vaughn confirmed a person was arrested for child endangerment, but officials did not give a name of the person who was arrested or what relation the person had to the child or the incident. 

23ABC spoke with the general manager of the Motel 6 on Easton Drive. He said he could not comment. 

23ABC has also reached out to G6 Hospitality's media relations line which manages Motel 6 on Easton Drive for comment and is waiting to hear back.
