BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The city of Bakersfield has released a memo featuring the latest report from the Bakersfield Police Special Enforcement Unit on crime statistics. This months report shows that crime is down from 2018.
According to the report, so far this year there have been 14 shootings and 6 homicides compared to 16 shootings and 7 homicides during the month of April in 2018.
As for arrests and gun seizures, the numbers for Bakersfield have increased this month. The report says there were 84 felony arrests up from this time last year and 24 guns were seized. This is an increase of 9 from this time last year.
Search warrants are also up from last year, as there were 44 reported in 2018 and 109 have been made up to this point in 2019.
Gang-related shootings are also down from the previous year, with only 2 being reported in April compared to 6 in 2018 and 8 in 2017.
Overall there were 61 felony arrests, 17 misdemeanor arrests and 8 citations in April.
