BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Bakersfield Police Department says an employee laptop has gone missing after it was stolen from a car back in December.

According to BPD, on December 30, 2018 an employee reported their department issued laptop as stolen. They say it was taken from the employee's personal car while it was parked in the 200 block of Quincy Avenue in East Bakersfield.

The department says the laptop is protected with several security measures to ensure confidential information is not accessed. They say it requires a specific numerical code that is determined by a numerical code generating device. In addition to passcodes, BPD says they have been able to disable the device remotely ensuring it will not be able to communicate with the departments secure networks while missing.

The department is asking anyone with information on the theft or the whereabouts of the laptop to contact them at 327-7111.
