Bakersfield police warns of celebratory gunfire on 4th of July

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Police Department is warning people about the consequences of celebratory gunfire on 4th of July.

In a Facebook post, BPD said their recently deployed ShotSpotter technology is designed to differentiate between fireworks and gunfire, saying they will be deploying patrols to areas with high reports of illegal firearm activity.

They encourage the public to report the use of illegal firearms and want to remind people that negligently disarming a firearm is illegal.
