Bakersfield takes part in the Great American Smokeout, welcomes Grammy Winner

The American Cancer Society and Kern Superintendent of Schools will be hosting the Great American Smokeout event here in Bakersfield. 

The event will be held today, Wednesday October 25, 2017 between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Bakersfield Music Hall of Fame. 

The event is being held to recognize the national day for smokers across the nation to come together and use the day to either plan to quit smoking, or plan in advance and then quit smoking on the day of the Great American Smokeout. 

The speakers at today's event range from news journalists, to school officials who will be touching on a variety of topics including the importance of being tobacco free. 

The national day for the Great American Smokeout is scheduled for the third Thursday of November of every year.
