On November 07, 2017 a 44-year-old woman was driving a 2000 Mercedes Benz ML430 southbound on the I-5 in the third lane north of Valencia Boulevard approaching a construction zone with a reduced roadway ahead.

According to the California Highway Patrol the woman steered her vehicle toward the left through the construction cone pattern and her vehicle crashed into the arrow board in the second lane.

After that crash, the passenger stepped out of the car and crossed over the dirt median center divider. It was determined the passenger began crossing the northbound I-5 freeway and was hit by a car traveling northbound on the I-5.

The woman died from her injuries on the scene.

Lanes were temporarily closed and traffic was diverted for about 50 minutes after the accident.

The name of the woman is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.
