BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Bakersfield City School District has been named one of 18 districts nationwide to be awarded the Magna Award by the National School Boards Association.
BCSD is being awarded for their Family and Community Engagement (FACE) program which has dramatically increased parent engagement across BCSD schools and at the District level.
“This award validates the efforts our FACE Team is making on increasing parent engagement across the district and highlights the programs and opportunities that FACE continually strives to provide to our families,” said Dee Dee Harrison, FACE Coordinator. “Our commitment to involve parents and our community partners helps support our students and schools in building positive, warm, welcoming environments to grow and thrive.”
The Magna Awards honor districts across the country for programs that break down barriers for underserved students.
“One of the most important elements to a child’s academic success is the involvement of their parents in their education,” said Doc Ervin, Superintendent. “This is why one of my primary objectives when I arrived to BCSD was to work with the team to create opportunities for families to become engaged at the district and school site levels. We have seen a dramatic increase in parent involvement and I am proud to say that we are truly seeing a collaborative effort between BCSD and our families that is positively affecting the overall success of our students.”
