The Bakersfield City School District (BCSD) presents the 10th Annual Junior High/Middle School Band and Orchestra Standards Festival on Thursday, March 10, 2016 from 9:45 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. inside the Doré Theater at California State University, Bakersfield.
The festival is an opportunity for the District’s music faculty to focus on instruction with the goal of improving student achievement. Created in 2006 to benchmark student progress for performance in band and orchestra classes, the event has grown in participation by 120%. Student performance standards have improved, with most ensembles earning Excellent or Superior Ratings over the past several years.
“The festival is a chance to get BCSD music students onto a college campus so that they can see future educational opportunities,” said Michael Stone, District Coordinator of the Visual and Performing Arts Department.
The performing bands and orchestras are critiqued and then receive a clinic from one of our four expert judges. This year’s judges are: Mr. Harry Leff, Retired Music Teacher at A. E. Wright Middle School in Calabasas; Ms. Kimberly Cole, String Specialist Teacher with the Davis Unified School District; Mr. Nelson Agregado, Director of Bands at Alvarado Middle School in Union City; and Mr. Paul Perazzo, Director of Instrumental Music at Harvest Park Middle School in Pleasanton.
The festival is free and open to the public.
