Highway 223 reopens following big rig crash

UPDATE (11a.m.) Highway 223 is back open following a big rig rollover crash that shut down both lanes of Bear Mountain Boulevard east of General Beale Road for several hours on Wednesday morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver of the semi, Moreno Reinor, 37, made an unsafe turning movement and lost control of the vehicle around 4:30 a.m. Lanes reopened around 11a.m.

HazMat crews have been called to the scene. According to the CHP, the big rig was hauling about 78,000 pounds of lettuce.
