Local authorities were on high alert this Fourth of July, watching for anyone lighting off illegal fireworks. 

The Bakersfield Fire Department, along with Bakersfield Police, even set up a temporary hotline for residents wanting to report the use or storage of illegal fireworks or explosives. They received more than 1,000 calls from concerned citizens. 

BFD says those calls resulted in 48 citations for illegal fireworks. They also seized several fireworks not deemed legal in the City of Bakersfield.
