BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — A vehicle versus bicyclist crash in east Bakersfield has left a 44-year-old woman dead.
According to Bakersfield Police, on July 23 around 9:30 p.m. officers responded to the area of Baker St. and E. California Ave. for reports of a vehicle versus bicyclist crash.
When officers arrived on scene they determined Crystal Phillips, 44, was riding northbound on Baker St. in the southbound lane when she was struck by a southbound compact car.
Phillips had major injuries was taken to a local hospital where she was listed in critical condition. Two days later, on July 25, Phillips died.
Police said the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and police determined he was driving under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested for DUI.
A postmortem exam is scheduled for Phillips to determine the cause and manner of her death.
Bakersfield Police are still investigating the crash and are asking anyone with information to contact them at 327-7111.
