Black ice causes dangerous conditions

Posted

Black ice in Tehachapi made driving dangerous on Monday evening.

The California Highway Patrol reported accidents on Highline and Banducci Rd. due to the weather.

Ice was visible on sidewalks, the side of the road and even on roads themselves.

Local resident Shani Smith said ice is normal for this time of year but you need to be careful when driving.

"A lot of people here in town have been saying it's been happening a lot in the outlying areas like in the Stallion Springs area or outside of town," said Smith, "if you don't have to go anywhere, I wouldn't recommend it. I mean, it is ice, you're not going to have much friction on it but if you have to drive, drive slow because you're not going to have much friction on black ice and you're not going to see it."

According to CHP if you intend to drive in snow or icy conditions, make sure your car is in top condition.

Also, always carry chains, food, water and extra clothes.
