UPDATE (8:55 a.m.): KCFD officials say the fire does appear to be suspicious and could have possibly been caused by squatters. 

Arson investigators are currently looking into the cause.

Kern County Fire crews are battling a blaze in Central Bakersfield on Thursday morning. 

The blaze was reported at a house just before 7 a.m. in the area of 36th and K streets.

It's not known what caused the blaze or if anyone was inside the house.
