BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — A local church hosted its annual Christmas event on Tuesday where it provided gifts and a holiday meal for people in need.

Blessing Corner Ministries held its 28th annual Christmas Day Extravaganza from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

This year the church decided to spread some holiday cheer and focus on the homeless. Volunteers served warm meals, sent out dinners to the elderly, and collected toys, backpacks and toiletries for children.

Event organizers said they were overwhelmed by the turnout and grateful for the community’s help in putting the event together.

Blessing Corner will also be putting on a production at Bakersfield High School on Friday, Dec. 28, at 7 p.m. Every ticket sold will be considered a donation for Blessing Corner to continue serving the community.
