BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Multiple Kern County groups led by BLM Kern unite to demand direct policy action from local, state, and federal representatives given by Movement for Black Lives by holding a solidarity protest in honor of Breonna Taylor.

The protest will be held in front of the Bakersfield Police Department.

"Movement for Black Lives has released policy platforms that can be enacted at the local, state and federal level but they continue to pass the buck and take no action while co-opting revolutionary movements for good PR. Breonna Taylor receiving no justice whatsoever is not surprising, but it is infuriating and we are livid. In a time of a global pandemic and economic strife, we need to defund the Bakersfield Police Department and Kern County Sheriffs Office and invest in our communities by focusing on housing, healthcare, food insecurity and more. We will no longer accept the state-sanctioned violence in the form of racial, economic, or environmental injustice. We need action now or elected representatives need to resign."
