A body was found in the trunk of an abandoned car in an orchard near Delano, California.

The orchard is near the intersection of Zerker Road and 9th Avenue.  

The body was found in a black Lincoln around 1:30 p.m. by the California Highway Patrol, who then called out Kern County Sheriff's Department homicide detectives, officials said.

It's unknown who called law enforcement initially.  There was also a white car being towed, but officials didn't say if it was connected to the homicide.

The identity of the body was unknown until the coroner could identify it, officials said.
