KERN COUNTY, Calif. — On Tuesday, officers were dispatched to the 18500 block of State Route 178 on a report of suspicious circumstances. A vehicle belonging to a reported missing person was located nearby.
During the investigation, a woman's body was located in the Kern River.
Kern County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue personnel responded to assist with recovery.
During the recovery efforts, police personnel controlled traffic near the mouth of the Kern River Canyon. A Bakersfield Police car that was blocking traffic east of the investigation was hit by a DUI driver. The patrol vehicle was unoccupied and sustained minor damage.
California Highway Patrol responded to handle the DUI investigation.
The identity of the decedent will be released at a later time by the Kern County Coroner's Office.
