Bomb squad called out to Southwest Bakersfield for suspicious package in parking lot

UPDATE (May 16, 2017 3:20 p.m.): The object was determined to not be a destructive device.

The Bakersfield Police Department's bomb squad has been called to reports of a suspicious object in a Southwest Bakersfield parking lot, officials said Tuesday.

The object was found in the area of Ming Avenue and Stine Road at around 11:26 a.m. when BPD was called.

BPD investigators were working to determine if the object may be threatening in nature.

Traffic in the area may be impacted as crews investigate.
