BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Kern County Sheriff's Bomb Squad removed a "suspected grenade" from the backyard of a southwest Bakersfield home Saturday morning, officials say.

KCSO Lieutenant Cesar Ollague said a resident in the 3900 block of Harris Road was doing work in his backyard, when he discovered a suspected grenade at about 9:53 a.m.

Deputies responded to the scene and requested assistance from KCSO bomb squad units, Ollague said.

Units rendered the device safe, removed and disposed of it safely, according to Ollague.
