BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — County music, cowboy boots and a good time. Those are some of the things fallen Bakersfield Police officer David Nelson loved most and are the focus of the 4th annual Boots and Brews Country Music Festival Saturday.

The county music event will be on Saturday starting at 5 p.m. at 1933 Event Center in Northwest Bakersfield. Officer Nelson’s older brother, Erik Nelson, said his family wanted to honor his brother’s memory with a night he’d enjoy and to raise money for local scholarships.

Officer Nelson died in June 2015 while serving from Bakersfield. He was born and raised in Burbank, CA, but his brother said their family would spend a lot of time during their summers in Kern County and Bakersfield.

Erik Nelson say there will be vendors along with normal food and drink service at 1933. Proceeds from the event will benefit scholarships for the Bakersfield High School District and Bakersfield Police Explorers programs.
