Around 6:30 p.m. Saturday night, the Bakersfield Police Department responded to an injury collision near the intersection of Harris Road and Mountain Vista Drive.

When officers arrived they found a young man suffering from major injuries.

The young man was transferred to a local hospital and is listed in critical condition.

Officials said upon further investigation they determined the young man was walking southbound on Mountain Vista with another subject. As they reached the intersection the juvenile entered the roadway chasing a loose ball. The young man was struck by a vehicle that was traveling westbound on Harris Road.

Officials said drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in this collision.

The east and westbound lanes west of the intersection were closed for a period of time during the investigation.

BPD is asking anyone with information to contact them at 327-7111.
