BPD arrests man for human trafficking

Bakersfield Police officials arrested a 34-year-old for human trafficking of three adults and a minor on Wednesday.
 
Officials said on Wednesday, at about 5:30 p.m. their department received some information from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department that there was a runaway juvenile from Arizona currently in the Bakersfield area.
 
The information received was that she was involved in prostitution.
 
During BPD's investigation, officers located the juvenile with 34-year-old Carl Lewis and three other adult females at the Quality Inn on the 200 block of Union Ave.
 
Bakersfield Police said that during the interviews, juvenile and two of the females revealed they were prostitutes, and Lewis was acting as their “pimp”.
 
Furthermore, it was determined they arrived in Bakersfield to engage in prostitution.
 
When authorities interviewed Lewis, he admitted that he was acting as their pimp.
 
The minor was transported to the Jamison Center where she was released into their custody pending release to her guardian.
 
The three other females were released without charges.
 
Lewis was booked into the Kern County Jail for PC 236.1(b) – human trafficking of an adult and PC 236.1(c) – human trafficking of a minor.
