BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Critical Incident Review Board found two officers, involved in a July shooting that killed 36-year-old Anthony James Gonzales, were within department policy and legal requirements.

The Bakersfield Police Department announced Friday that officers Matthew Aquino and Louis Rodriguez have been returned to full duty.

On July 9, the two officers responded to a call in the area of Nelson Street and University Avenue just before 2 a.m. for a domestic violence incident.

BPD said Gonzales was confronted by police in front of a home before the officer-involved shooting occurred. Gonzales was pronounced dead at the scene.
