BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Bakersfield Police Department is hosting an event in hopes of reducing the number of active, non-violent, citable warrants in the city.

According to the department, there is currently a backlog of active misdemeanor warrants. BPD says the event will allow individuals with non-violent citable warrants the opportunity to receive a citation with a new court date.

Individuals who want to participate in this program and do not fit the criteria below will receive a citation with a new court date and will not be booked into jail.

Again, BPD says the following warrants are NOT eligible for a citation:

  1. Any Felony
  2. The misdemeanor cited in the warrant involves violence (including domestic violence)
  3. The misdemeanor cited in the warrant involves a firearm
  4. The misdemeanor cited in the warrant involves resisting arrest
  5. The misdemeanor cited in the warrant involves giving false information to officers
  6. The misdemeanor cited in the warrant involves giving false information to officers

This event will take place on Friday, April 26, between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. at Jefferson Park, 801 Bernard Street.
