Based on the witness statements and evidence located at the scene, an arrest hold was placed on John Cole Smith (40) for assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy and participation in a criminal street gang as he was determined to be the primary aggressor.

A bail enhancement was granted for Smith who remains hospitalized in stable condition.
A second suspect, Michael Blackwood (55), was interviewed and subsequently booked into the Kern County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy and participation in a criminal street gang.
