BPD investigating possible explosives in Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — UPDATE: The Bakersfield Police Department and the Explosive Ordinance Disposal team has determined the area safe after reports of possible explosives on Wetherley Drive near Real Road and Stockdale Highway.

According to BPD, the call came in around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday from the grandson of a deceased man. BPD says he found explosives inside the residence that his grandfather had.

BPD evacuated residence on Wetherley, Oakdale Drive and Western.

The Bakersfield Police Department is investigating reports of possible explosives on Wetherley Drive near Real Road and Stockdale Highway.

BPD says explosives are most likely in the area and they are investigating. As of now, residents in the area are being evacuated.

According to BPD, the call came in just before 1 p.m. Sunday and are expected to be out for at least two more hours.
