Dead man found lying in roadway identified

UPDATE (October 26, 2017 10:43 a.m.): The victim found lying in the roadway on Sunday October 22, 2017 has been identified as Jeffrey Alan Woodford. 

Woodford was found dead near the center divider of the roadway near the 4200 block of Union Ave. 

A postmortem examination will be done by the coroner's office to determine Woodford's cause and manner of death. 

The man and woman arrested for the murder of Woodford are expected in court today at 3 p.m.

UPDATE (October 25, 2017 4:45 p.m.): Two suspects have been arrested for the murder of the man found lying in the roadway in east Bakersfield on Sunday.

Dyllan Deena, 32, and Mary Holmes, 39, are believed to be the ones responsible for the death of Jeffrey Alen Woodford, who was found with stab wounds in the upper torso area Sunday morning at 8:42 a.m.

Bakersfield Police Department said Woodford, 48, died from those injuries. 

It is currently unknown whether the man was stabbed where he was found, or stabbed some where else and just left where he was found. 

Deena and Holmes are due in court on Thursday.

On October 24, 2017 around 2 a.m. Deena was found inside of a residence on Woodrow Ave and was arrested and booked in Kern County Jail. Holmes was located later that day around 3:30 p.m. inside of a home on Jefferson St. and was also arrested and booked into Kern County Jail.

UPDATE (October 22, 2017 3:17 p.m.): Police were called to the 2800 block of Loma Linda Drive at 8:42 a.m. for reports of a man down.

When they got on scene they located a man lying off the roadway within the 4200 block of Union Ave.

The identity of the victim will not be released until next of kin are notified.

Bakersfield Police is investigating a suspicious death at the corner of Union and Columbus.
