BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — At approximately 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 5 Bakersfield Police officers were dispatched to the intersection of Calloway Drive and Rosedale Highway a traffic collision in which a vehicle struck a pedestrian.
When officers arrived at the scene, they located a man who had been crossing the inside of a marked crosswalk in his wheelchair and had been struck by a vehicle.
According to officers, the man was suffering from moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. His identity will be released by the Kern County Coroner at a later time.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Drugs, alcohol and speed do not appear to have contributed to the collision, however the investigation is continuing.
