BPD offers a chance to clear up warrants

Posted
There are about 9,000 outstanding warrants in the city of Bakersfield and some of those are decades old. Today the police department hopes to help clear and lower that number.

BDP is hosting Clear-up Your Warrant Day today where they give people the chance to show up and clear their outstanding warrants.

This is done for non-violent offenses including traffic tickets, property related offenses and other low- level cases. Felonies or any misdemeanor involving a firearm, violence or resisting arrest are not eligible.

Since warrants do not have an expiration date, they can stack up. According to BPD some people aren’t even aware they have a warrant.

The police department says people can show up today without any fear of going to jail. What will happen when you show up is you'll get a new citation with a new court date to clear up your warrant.

Today’s event is at Patriots Park located on 1600 New Stine Road from 10 a.m. until 6p.m.

If you can't make it out today you'll have another chance this Wednesday at MLK Park from 10 am until 6 pm.
