BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — An officer with the Bakersfield Police Department found a woman unconscious after her vehicle crashed into a building and caught fire early Wednesday morning in east Bakersfield.

According to BPD, the officer was in the area of the 500 block of East California Ave. when he heard the sound of a collision. The officer located a vehicle that was driven into an unoccupied business and was beginning to catch fire.

BPD says a woman, who was unconscious, was inside the vehicle alone. The vehicle caught on fire, as additional officers were arriving, they forced entry and removed the unconscious woman to a safe area.

Shortly, thereafter, the vehicle became engulfed in flames.

The driver was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
