BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Bakersfield Police said no gunman was found after responding to reports of a suspect with a firearm on the campus of West High School in southwest Bakersfield.
First reports came in around 4 p.m. and BPD said those reports were second and third hand.
The campus was placed on lock down, according to the Kern High School District.
For more than an hour, officers searched campus buildings but did not find anyone with a gun.
The Kern High School District released this response Friday evening:
On Friday, March 1, 2019, Kern High School District Police officers along with Bakersfield Police officers responded to the campus of West High School at 4 p.m. after receiving a report of someone possibly armed with a gun. The school was immediately placed on lockdown as officers searched the entire campus. Officers were able to confirm that the subject was no longer on the campus and no one was injured. The investigation is ongoing.
