BPD says shooting, hit-and-run may be connected

Bakersfield Police Department officials say a shooting that occurred on DeWolfe Street Friday night may have been connected to a hit-and-run crash that occurred a few blocks away on South Haley Street.

BPD officials said at around 7:05PM, they responded to the 1700 Block of De Wolfe Street of a shooting that had just occurred.

When officers arrived to the scene, they located evidence of a shooting, which included multiple shell casings.

Officials say that a few blocks away, in the area of South Haley Street and Virginia Avenue, a hit-and-run crash was also reported involving a stolen red Dodge Caliber which struck a Nissan Altima.

Immediately following the collision, the three occupants of the stolen Dodge Caliber were observed fleeing from the vehicle on foot, according to BPD. 

Officials said there were two people in the Nissan Altima and they sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash.

One of the occupants of the Nissan Altima was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The occupants of the stolen Dodge Caliber were described as:

#1-Black Male Adult, short natural hairstyle with ponytail, wearing a white shirt
#2-Black Male Adult, wearing Black and White striped or plaid shirt
#3-Black Male Adult, unknown description
 
Based on the information gathered at the scene, BPD said that it appeared the occupants of the Dodge Caliber were possibly involved in the shooting.
 
A victim of gunshot wounds, a 21-year-old man was later located in the 700 Block of South Williams Street.
 
The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was listed in stable condition.
 
The investigation is ongoing.
