BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — On Thursday, the Bakersfield Police Department is scheduled to host a free workshop for the public to learn the protocols for use of deadly force.

The event comes the same day two major police organizations announced that they are dropping their opposition to California legislation that would tighten the standard for use of deadly force.

According to BPD, the department's event will give participants a chance to collaborate with officers and experience simulations similar to actual police training and real situations.

This event is hosted by the department and the Greater Bakersfield Legal Assistance. It's currently scheduled for 6 p.m. tonight at the Compassion Church on 1030 4th Street Bakersfield, CA.
