Bakersfield Police Department released the following statement:
On Friday, January 15, 2016 at approximately 8:10 a.m., the Bakersfield Police Department received a bomb threat at its Truxtun Ave. headquarters. The building was evacuated and searched; however, no threat was located.
On Saturday, January 16, 2016 at about 4:15 p.m., another bomb threat was received at the Bakersfield Police Department headquarters and again no threat was located.
That same day, at approximately 4:16 p.m., a bomb threat was called in to the BJ’s restaurant on Stockdale Hwy. That business was evacuated and searched but again no threat was located.
On Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at about 2:00 p.m., staff at Horizon Elementary received a call where threats were made to harm the children.
At approximately 2:25 p.m. that same say, staff at Discovery Elementary received a similar threat toward the children.
Bakersfield Police Officers responded and stood by at both schools while students and faculty left the campuses.
A search was completed at both schools but no threat was located.
Also on Tuesday, January 19, several schools across the United States received bomb threats and the calls were received from a phone number with a “661” area code.
The Bakersfield Police Department will assist the agencies in those jurisdictions with any ongoing investigation they have related to the threats.
The Bakersfield Police Department has opened an investigation into all of the threats received locally.
We are trying to determine if they are related to one another and if they are in any way related to the recent threats made to schools throughout the United States.
