On October 4, 2017 at 3:22 p.m., detectives assigned to the Kern County Auto Theft Task Force (KernCATT) located a stolen truck and motorcycle in the 2000 block of South Union Avenue.
Detectives attempted to detain two suspects standing near the vehicles, Ernesto Rodriguez (23) and Emanuel Melchor (21); however Melchor led officers on a foot pursuit and was able to avoid apprehension.
As detectives followed Melchor’s path of travel, an additional stolen vehicle was located, which was believed to have been stolen by both suspects.
Rodriguez was arrested and booked into the Kern County Jail for auto theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, owning a chop shop, possession of stolen property and two outstanding warrants.
There is probable cause to arrest Melchor for auto theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, owning a chop shop and resisting arrest. Melchor is described as a:
Hispanic male, 21 years of age, 5’2”, 120 pounds, black hair and brown eyes
Anyone with information regarding this investigation, or the location of Melchor is asked to call the KernCATT office (661) 336-0311, or the Bakersfield Police Department (661) 327-7111.
