BPD's DUI checkpoint nets 2 arrests, cites 32

The Bakersfield Police Department Traffic Section conducted a DUI Checkpoint on Saturday, February 13, 2016, in the 2200 block of Mt. Vernon Avenue and the 200 block of Bernard Street between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m.
 
942 drivers were screened by officers and 7 drivers were detained to be further evaluated to determine their sobriety influence level.
 
The Bakersfield Police Department Traffic Section arrested a total of 2 drivers for driving under the influence.
 
Two of the arrested drivers had prior arrests for driving under the influence.
 
32 drivers were cited for driving on a suspended license and being unlicensed drivers.
 
Funding for this checkpoint is provided to the Bakersfield Police Department Traffic Section by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
 
The public is encouraged to help keep roadways safe by calling 911 if they see a suspected impaired driver.
