Thursday morning, screams of excitement were emanating from Branch Elementary School as their Fourth Annual Rocket Competition took off!

Children from 4th - 6th grade took part, crafting their rockets at school over the past two weeks.

"I was really nervous about the rocket because I was on the build team, and so everybody was like if it doesn't work you're going to, we're all going to be like ahhh! But it worked, and I was really nervous," 6th Grader Nadia said.

Teams had names from Flash Point, to Blue Flame, to Rocket Riders, all painted on banners that showed what they hoped their rocket could do one day.

"It kind of inspires me to make really cool things when I grow up," 6th Grade Student Emily said.

The children lined up to watch their projects take flight, counted down and follow the trajectory until the pivotal moment where the parachute may or may not deploy correctly.

"It's just so fun to see which one goes the highest!" Emily said.

The launches inspire students to get involved in careers in aerospace and use technology to better society.
