UPDATE (09/04 6:16): The fire burned a total of 55 acres before it was contained around 2:45 p.m., according to the Kern County Fire Department. All southbound lanes on the 99 were open around 3 p.m. and traffic was moving freely through the early evening hours.

There are approximately 4 engines on the scene, and approximately 15 firefighters fighting the blaze.

A brush fire along southbound I-5 and a car fire are impacting traffic near the near the Highway 99 split.
Kern County Fire is on scene battling the blaze. It is currently unknown how long the lanes will be shutdown.
