BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — (UPDATE: April 9, 2019 2:49 p.m.) The lockdown at Cato Middle School has been lifted. BPD says they found no evidence of shots fired in the area.

A bullet was found on an East Bakersfield middle school campus after reports of shots fired.
According to the Bakersfield Police Department, Paul L. Cato Middle School in East Bakersfield went on lockdown after reports of shots fired in the area around 1:30 p.m.
BPD says someone was allegedly firing a gun "in an irresponsible manner" in a nearby field. BPD says shots were not fired at the school, however a bullet was found on campus.
BPD says no one was injured and no one is in custody at this time. Cato Middle School is still on lockdown at this time. Doctor Douglas K Fletcher Elementary School is also on lockdown.
