Buttonwillow CHP arrest Taft man for DUI following crash that left a woman with major injuries

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Buttonwillow California Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that left a Taft woman in critical condition on Thursday, May 28.

Officials said around 5:30 p.m. officers received a call of a two vehicle crash on Wood Street and Lierly Avenue.

Officers responded and through their investigation, determined Eulogio Lopez Torres was driving a Chevrolet Cruz southbound on Lierly Avenue when he collided with a Ford Escape being driven eastbound on Wood Street by Yvette Herrera.

Torres fled the scene on foot and was quickly located by a Kern County Sheriff's Deputy.

The Deputy transported him back to the collision scene where he was turned over to CHP.

Herrera was extricated from her vehicle by the Kern County Fire Department and transported by air ambulance to Kern Medical with major injuries. Torres, who was not injured, was arrested by CHP on charges of felony DUI causing injuries, felony hit and run and driving while unlicensed.

Torres had two juvenile passengers in his vehicle who were not injured.
