A bystander's quick-thinking is being credited for helping a Kern County Fire Department paramedic engine save a person in cardiac arrest.

According to KCFD, around 4:15 p.m. on March 1, a KCFD paramedic engine was called out to a Shell gas station near Highway 58 and I-5 for chest pain. When paramedics arrived, they discovered the person was in cardiac arrest in their RV.

KCFD says due to a bystander providing immediate CPR and quick EMS notification, the paramedic crew was able to arrive quickly and provide "immediate advanced life support interventions."

KCFD says the person regained a pulse after almost 40 minutes of interventions and was transported to a local hospital via air ambulance.
