TEHACHAPI, Calif. — The City of Tehachapi will be recognized on March 26 for two separate awards from the California Association for Local Economic Development.
The city received the Award of Merit for the Collaboration category while the Tehachapi Police Department received the the Award of Merit for the Tehachapi Neighborhood Improvement Project.
The city was recognized for the public and private collaboration in the repurposing of a vacant building located at 228 W. Tehachapi Blvd., which is now home of World Wind & Solar. The property was the oldest commercial structure in the city and was purchased by Buddy and Nikki Cummings of Mountaintop Holdings LLC. The building was renovated for the headquarters and training center for WWS.
The Neighborhood Improvement Project focused on improving the quality of life for the oldest residential neighborhood in Tehachapi. The department worked in collaboration with the City's economic development teak and community groups. The program involved major cleanups led by volunteers.
The award presentation ceremony will take place at the 40th annual CALED Conference.
