The California City Police Department is investigating a recent phone scam from a caller identifying himself as an employee of "Edison."

The caller advises that there is a very large past-due bill that needs to be paid immediately so that "Edison" doesn't disconnect power.

They also say that the debt must be paid over the phone using some form of a pre-paid card which usually can be purchased at Rite-Aid or similar stores.

Anyone who receives this call should contact their utility provider to confirm if they do in fact owe money.
