UPDATE (9/12 5 p.m.) -- A Memorial Service for Police K-9 Ty will be held Monday, September 19 at 1 p.m.

A procession will start at the edge of town around 12:30 and end at the Strata Center at Central Park.

California City Police Department K-9 Ty passed away Wednesday morning.

Ty was being treated for several injuries he had from earlier on in the year after apprehending a suspect that attacked officers.

The K9 continued to serve the community after back surgery earlier on in the year.

Ty's handler was Officer Rivera.
